PRE-SURGERY PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS

Pre-surgery psychological evaluations are often a prerequisite for procedures such as bariatric or plastic surgery.  They serve to assess a patient’s mental and emotional readiness to undergo a taxing procedure, and identify and, if necessary, treat the presence of underlying clinical disorders such as depression or anxiety, which could potentially impact the readiness for surgery and post-surgery recovery.  Such assessments are usually completed in two meetings. Among other things, your understanding of what the surgery involves, your expectations, and your anticipation of your emotional responses and the reactions of people close to you will be explored.  After completion of your evaluation at The Flatiron Group, the referring surgeon is provided with a timely and comprehensive report.
